Say ‘Yes’ to a Babymoon!

No matter what your circumstances I am sure, that at some stage, you have found yourself daydreaming about faraway lands. If you’re like me then this happy place includes lazing on beaches, eating delicious food and having naps in the afternoon. Now doesn’t this sound like the perfect break for someone who is pregnant?!

The ‘babymoon’ is a concept that has definitely increased in popularity over the last decade. With the premise that this will be the last holiday you will have alone with your partner for the next 18 years it really is a great idea in the lead up to welcoming the new addition to your family.

Traveling to an island for their babymoon

I was lucky enough to get married when I was 7 months pregnant so the following days were the perfect opportunity for hubby and I to set off on our babymoon (obviously our honeymoon too!) Thankfully I had a husband that was more than happy to simply indulge in food and sleep throughout our time shacked up in a little beach cabin for a week. And that’s exactly what a babymoon should be about… R&R!

There are of course some things to take into consideration when planning your escape:
– How far along will you be? This may affect how you feel and the activities you can undertake.
There could also be restrictions on travel, if intending to go via air
The second trimester seems to be the best time, as you’re likely to be over the first trimester nausea and not too far along that you (or your medical team) are concerned about an early arrival
– Do you have any doctor or hospital appointments scheduled that you need to take into consideration?
– Is your work OK with you having some time off before your maternity leave?
– Is your proposed holiday location known for infectious diseases? Best not to tempt fate!
– Will you have access to quality doctors and/or hospitals? Just in case!

There are travel agencies that specialise in babymoons, so if you’re looking for some inspiration and guidance on where to go, what to do and any safety measures to take these companies are a great first point of call.

A babymoon may be the last time you and your partner get to spend some quality time alone in quite some time so revel in every precious moment!
