Postpartum Diet: New Moms Eating Tips Made Easy

Being a new mom means giving up (what feels like) every minute of your day to feed another human and get pee’d, pooped and vomited on. Postpartum diet are essential because suddenly everyday tasks we had previously taken for granted, such as eating, seem like they take about as much effort as running a mara- wait, a triathlon (the same amount of time, too)!

So, I’m here to give you a few tips on eating tips made easy for new moms which makes lunch time just that little bit simpler.

1. Cook in large batches.

This is literally a lifesaver. Each time you cook a meal at home, make enough to leave leftovers either to freeze or refrigerate. You’ll thank me when you’re running around with a baby (maybe even a toddler too, or more than just one baby!) and you’re desperate for a quick fix.

2. Soups.

Soup is the easiest meal (in my opinion!) to cook, and cool a lot of. as a new mom your postpartum diet should include nutrient packed foods, soups are generally a healthy option too. My all time favorite go-to mommy meal option is a mixed vegetable soup. Our freezer is full of soup, this saves my life (and my hunger pangs too…).

3. Pasta Bakes.

Another easy one. If I’m not making a batch of soup at the beginning of the week, then I am cooking a big pasta bake. Running around after babies and toddlers is tiring, breastfeeding is tiring, feeding is tiring, changing dirty diapers is tiring. So pasta helps us fill up and gives us some extra energy to help with all our running around. Always make sure to cook in large batches.

4. Easy to reach healthy snacks.

As a new mom you’ll need to learn how to do almost everything one-handed once you become a mom. Craving for junks comes naturally although giving in to it is where you need to be mindful as a new mom. Having dried fruit and nuts in close proximity are a lifesaver. Trust me.

5. Ask for help!

Seriously, don’t be ashamed. Friends and family are likely to be gushing over your newborn and looking for excuses to visit all the time. Make the most of the constant visits. Let a friend or family member snuggle baby while you sit in peace for a few minutes to eat. Or, ask a friend to help you cook, or cook for you, or bring you some takeaway. Anything. Don’t be ashamed, Momma!

A healthy baby needs a healthy and happy momma. Take care of yourself, ask for help and fill that freezer when you get the chance!
